Preventive safety can be extremely helpful in reducing the chances of
injury or serious accident. This article is designed to give propective
scooter owners a snapshot of the types of protective equipment that is
avaialble and will explain its uses. Many of the items iused for electric
scooters are also used for bike riding. The speeds and risks are very
much the same in dealing with electric scooters and bikes. The only
differences are the positioning of the rider and the motor. Also neither
one of these vehicles offers a lot of protection in the event of impact,
unlike the steel and plastic in a car. Therefore, most bike protective
gear is also quite applicable for electric scooters.
Helpful Clothing: The protective clothing is not necessarily
essential, but will can provide prection against crapes, cuts and small
bruises. Thinker clothing is generally better for protecting the rider
from scrapes and cuts. Generally long sleeves and long pants are
desireable to shorts. Strong shoes help too - doo not ride barefoot or
with sandal or flip flops on your feet.
Scooter Helmet: An electric scooter rider needs to have a helmet
since the helmet protects a scooter rider from serious head injuries.
Helmets can signficantly reduce the impact and injury in the event of a
serious electric scooter or bike accident. These are especially importan
when you consider that the scooter rider interacts with trees, poles, cars,
and trucks - all solid objects that can make impact quite apinful. Helmets
can minimize the blow and can also help to reduce injury in falling
accidents as well as collision accidents. Helmets are typically made out
of sturdy plastic or styrofoam and should also be strapped on so that they
do not fall off. If you are using a helment, make sure you follow the
helmet directions.
Wrist Pads: Wrist pads prevent serious injury in the envent of a
fall on a person's hands. They also cushion the blow for most falls.
Shoes: Shoes are key since they help to dictate rider's footing and
can make sure doesn't slip. They also affect balance and the ability to
jump off the scooter. Do not ride electric scooters withour any shoes on
or with inappropriate shoes on.
Gloves: Gloves are optional, but some people prefer them. They can
prevent scapes on hands and also the right kind of gloves can help you
steer better. Make sure the gloves are not too thick or baggy.
Knee Pads: These, like wrist guards protect a person's kness from
injuries or scrapes.
Elbow Pads: These protect a person's elbows from scrapes and can
prevent broken bones in the event of a fall.
Deck Tape: For scooters that have a slippery deck, deck tape can
make the ride grab the deck more easily and enhances friction on the deck.
